Lead Application Operations Engineer – Integration (Mulesoft)

Location: Liverpool / Darlington / Hybrid / Remote

Salary: £42,075 - £44,599

Contract: Permanent

Work pattern: Flexible working, Full-time, Part-time

Closing date: 4 August 2025, 10:00 am

Lead our Mulesoft integration platform and help transform how safeguarding services are delivered across the UK.

This is an exciting time to join the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as we modernise our technology platforms and strengthen the digital services that support safer recruitment across the UK.

We’re looking for a Lead Application Operations Engineer to take responsibility for our integration platform, Mulesoft, a critical part of how our systems and services work together to support customers, users and internal teams.

About the role

This is a newly created position within our Technology and Innovation Directorate. It plays an important role in our wider transformation programme, which is replacing legacy systems with a modern, cloud-based estate.

As the lead for integration, you’ll be accountable for the day-to-day performance, resilience and evolution of our Mulesoft platform. The work is a blend of operational focus and strategic oversight, from managing incidents and ensuring reliability, to shaping the roadmap for future development and improvement.

This is a trusted delivery role that involves collaboration across the organisation. You’ll work with colleagues in DevOps, product and service teams, as well as other application leads, to make sure Mulesoft continues to enable seamless end-to-end services. As our service model evolves, this role will also help define how integration is supported and improved in the long term.

About you

We’re looking for someone with hands-on experience supporting applications in a live service environment, and a good understanding of integration technologies. You should be confident managing service performance, guiding technical roadmaps, and working in a collaborative, cross-functional setting.

Demonstrable experience of delivering effective integrations using Mulesoft is strongly preferred.

Why choose a career at the Disclosure & Barring Service

Benefits include:

  • Civil Service pension with generous employer contributions
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days with service, plus public holidays
  • Flexible and hybrid working options, including remote working
  • A supportive and inclusive organisational culture
  • Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities

Remote working is available for this role. Office attendance (Liverpool or Darlington) may be required in accordance with business needs.

Closing date for applications is 4 August 2025, 10:00 am.
